Social services such as transportation, emergency services, hospitals and nursing homes, schools and education, libraries and other important institutions. If you live in a society, is that what you are doing. You pay taxes for you, that to the security or when in need. If you do not agree with the not, you must be a third world country! Yes, but what does that have to do with America?

I think everyone should pay taxes
I believe in capitalism but I think we should still help the little guy

Absolutely. The government fills in services not readily available through private markets, and can make large investments which benefits the economy in the long run, like the intercontinental highway system, the Erie canal, the internet, the armed forces, and the Space Program. Social programs like city water and schools are an economic boon to this country. One only has to analyse Early 20th century cities to get an idea for what it is like without such things: packs of Orphans roaming the street. Is that what we want to return to?

In some countries things like roads are not free and tolls pay for the upkeep. It is happening more and more here in the US. Emergency services and the other things that you mentioned should be pay as you go. Taxes are for National Defense, General Welfare, and Securing the Blessings of Liberty.

Taxes are to support commonly-used infrastructure: laws to regulate behavior, police and courts and prisons to enforce the laws, bridges and roads, mail delivery, minimal rules about non-interference with legitimate trade, enforcement of contracts and management of bankruptcies, and a military sufficient to defend us from aggression and maintain us as an independent nation.

Health care is not a right, it is a commodity.
Schools, libraries and poor houses were and should be again, privately maintained, and if we weren’t being taxed to death, we’d have the wherewithal to make charities capable of it.

Our roads are a joke, fyi. Anyone who thinks the fed pays for them doesn’t know better.

I like a small, fair, flat income tax. I hate tax season ie. I usually wait to the last moment and then end up going to a tax service…and quite a few times I end up with a big tax bill. One of the saddest moments I have experienced – was being told laughingly by a tax clerk that I shouldn’t have worked 2 jobs…because I was having to give back so much money in taxes. Also, I can remember making a nice profit in the stock market one year – and then having to give back a large chunk of my profits just to pay taxes. One feels like one is being robbed ie. I’m not rich, and I’ve worked hard for my money, so I don’t like then being penalized and having to give up my profits to just pay taxes…

I do however believe in a fair flat tax each year. For example, I wouldn’t mind giving a little money every year – just don’t shake me down like a govt. mugger each year in taxes. Let me make a profit; I work hard for my money. Also, I really don’t like seeing folks getting big so-called ‘refund’ checks. I would rather see everyone pay just a little bit each year, and I would also reduce the capital gains tax. I believe it’s healthy for folks to pay a little in taxes each year, so that it does foster a sense of responsibility.
It cuts both ways ie. the govt. needs to likewise realize that it has to be responsible with my tax money – that it’s power to tax me has certain limits…

I’d rather have my income tax pay for health care for anyone instead of paying for the military to torture and kill people in other countries.
